Clean Taco Seasoning

This week I was really craving Mexican food and decided to whip up some tacos. I opted to make my own clean taco seasoning using organic spices instead of using one of the highly processed, taco seasoning packets.

Have you ever looked at the ingredients on one of those taco seasoning packets? Take a look at Old El Paso’s below:

Maltodextrin, Salt, Chili Pepper, Monosodium Glutamate, Corn Starch, Yellow Corn Flour, Spice, Sugar, Contains Less Than 2% Of: Natural Flavor, Partially Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Silicon Dioxide (Anticaking Agent), Yeast Extract, Ethoxyquin (Preservative).

That is one scary list of ingredients. The last time I checked “Silicon Dioxide” was not a spice. The good news is you can make a cleaner version at home, and you likely have many of the herbs and spices already in your kitchen.

I didn’t have time to start testing out my own concoctions. Instead, I searched the web and came across this wonderful clean taco seasoning recipe by the He and She Eat Clean blog. I used this recipe on 2 lbs. of ground beef and it was delicious.

Clean Taco Seasoning

  • 1 Tbsp chili powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

This is now my go-to clean taco seasoning recipe. It was easy to make and I felt good about the ingredients.
